MHQ 'SALUTE THE SUN' RUNWAY WRAP UP

Our 'Salute the Sun' debut was anything but ordinary.

Injecting our quirky, no-boundaries, bold and brazen MHQ DNA into every facet of the show from Hair and Make Up, to Styling, Runway graffiti taggin' and flash mob dancing courtesy of Urban Dance (Yep, THOSE hot guys) and our Bloggers Rochelle Fox, Morgan Joanel, Chloe Ting, Emma Lucey, Steph Kramer catwalk debut...it's safe to say we delivered the goods.

Our dream team Market HQ Buyer Belle Fearon and Resident Stylist Georgina Hilton threw crazy concepts around the office and the show planning went into motion.

Between model castings and DIY-ing leather harnesses', we got a cheeky 5 minutes to quickly pick their brain on the show set up...

INTERVIEW WITH MHQ STYLIST GEORGIE

WHAT SECTION IS MORE SUITED TO YOUR STYLE AND WHY?
I would have to say the blogger section. I liked their off duty blogger attitudes and their bangs to match.

FAVOURITE LOOK FROM THE SHOW?
I am really loving the staple organza two piece

BEST SHOW MOMENT
When Megan Irwin was shaking her booty with one of the dancers.  I really wasn’t expecting her to participate so eagerly.

WHAT MADE YOU BECOME A STYLIST?
I have always loved being on sets whether film or stills and have always been involved in the arts. Strangely I studied theatre though. I assisted a friend of a friend years ago and decided I really loved the whole creative process. I continued to pursue a career in the industry

ANY ADVICE FOR GIRLS WHO WOULD KILL FOR YOUR JOB?
Get out there and give it a go. Study famous films, books and art of the fashion world. Find a stylist who inspires and assist them for free, be the best assistant ever! Keeping learning the tricks of the trade and eventually someone won’t be able to work without you!

WHY ‘SALUTE THE SUN’?
The show highlights our amazing summer collection so I guess we are celebrating the best time of the year!

BIGGEST PRE-SHOW CRISIS?
Our show was relatively stress free. Apart from a couple of steamers breaking down we ran a really tight ship.

PERKS OF BEING A STYLIST?
Working with some cool creative people and being able to plan outfits you love on a real model.

INTERVIEW WITH MHQ BUYER BELLE

WHAT SECTION IS MORE SUITED TO YOUR STYLE AND WHY?
Street for sure! Love the 90s styling with mesh, check and denim combinations, not to mention the nod to my lifelong love of leopard...I’ve also been experimenting making some leather harnesses which works well with this street style.
The Mono section had some amazing sheer and shiny pieces that I will be adding to cart too...

FAVOURITE LOOK FROM THE SHOW?
NOTHING beats a twosie. There were a few epic sets in the show but my favourite would have to be the Evil Twin eye print matching crop and jeans. In crazy prints, denim, plains or stripes, twosies are the bee’s knees.

BEST SHOW MOMENT?
Emily Jean and Lola uncontrollably laughing backstage after dancing with the hip hop hotties and then re-enacting their sweet dance moves. It really showed on all of the model’s faces that they were enjoying being in our show and wearing our clothes.
And also hearing people asking when they can buy it all!

WHAT MADE YOU BECOME A BUYER?
I never, ever get sick of shopping. I shop til I drop and then I scroll through online stores and Instagram. This chronic addiction led to styling which then led to buying and I think it’s pretty awesome that I can sometimes mix the two at Market HQ.

ANY ADVICE FOR GIRLS WHO WOULD KILL FOR YOUR JOB?
Work it girl! The people who have jobs like mine work super hard to be where they are, be prepared for the long haul but it’ll be worth it if you want it. And experiment with your style, break the rules - if you like it, wear it.
